Payouts and styles of Bingo differ from bingo hall to bingo hall! Each hall has it's own rules and payouts will vary hugely.

Bingo playing is simple but you must be quick!

Players purchase bingo cards with numbers on them in a 5 x 5 grid corresponding to the five letters in the word B-I-N-G-O. Letter and number combinations are drawn from an machine that is air activated and blows a ping pong ball to a point that the bingo caller will anounce to the players. There are a total number of 75 bingo ball combinations, but only 25 bingo combinations on your card to place your chip. Each time the bingo caller anounces a letter and number combination that matches one that is displayed on your bingo card, you place a chip on that place on your bingo card. Each bingo card has one free space on it. The numbers in the B column are between 1 and 15, in the I column between 16 and 30, in the N column, which contains a free space, between 31 and 45. The G column contains between 46 and 60, and in the O column between 61 and 75.

There is a wide range of unique cards for players to chose from. A player will probably never buy the same card twice. Both hard and flimsy cards will have a serial number printed on them. Cards sharing the same serial number will have the same arrangement of numbers.

Once you have five combinations covered on your bingo card, consecutavely in any direction, you holler BINGO! At that point you win a prize which may range from a few dollars and up. There are a great many bingo sites such as online internet bingo, charitable church based bingo, local bingo halls, etc. Some can be very competetive and in some places, there is even T.V.

In the U.S., bingo was called "beano". It was a country fair game where a dealer would select numbered discs from a cigar box and players would mark their cards with beans.

When the game reached North America in 1929, it became known as BEANO. It was first played at a carnival near Atlanta, Georgia. New York toy salesman Edwin S. Lowe renamed it BINGO after he overheard someone accidentally yell BINGO instead of BEANO. He hired a Columbia University math professor, Carl Leffler, to help him increase the number of combinations in bingo cards.
